Tactical dog collar: heavy duty gear for dogs on duty
Posted on
Fashion has become quite important in the canine world. Pet dogs are treated like royalty and owners view collars, harnesses, and leads as accessories rather than as dog gear.
But, in most of these products looks are prioritized over functionality. Some dogs are bred and trained for specific “jobs” like police and military work, mountain rescue, and hunting. And logically, the collars for “dogs on duty” need to be practical, stable, and comfortable.
Tactical collars is an umbrella term for dog gear made of heavy-duty materials. They are durable and can withstand extreme conditions. Initially designed for police dogs, they are now much more widely used since their first appearance. They are also very useful for dog handling, especially if you choose a collar with a handle.
The DoggoCollar 4 cm collar checks all the requirements for a tactical collar. We used uprated and wear-resistant materials, a 11magnetic buckle, and strengthened D-rings. This article will give you an overview of all these components.
Naturally, our 4 cm tactical collar is only suitable for big dog breeds. We recommend our 2.5 cm collars for small dogs. You can read more about DoggoCollar small dog collars in this blog post.
What makes a tactical collar sturdy
The key parts for a durable collar are the used fabrics. The ones we chose are of high class, ergonomic, reliable, and easy to maintain. We used three different materials.
Cordura. The Cordura advanced fabrics are popular in the military industry. They are highly resistant and have a warranty against damage and tearing. The main type of Cordura that we use for our collars is the “camouflage” one.
Additionally, the DoggoCollar 4 cm collars have two other kinds of Cordura with a special Vectran Ripstop coating. They further protect the fabric from tearing.
Hypalon. Similarly to the Cordura, Hypalon is also used in an industry. In shipping production, the inflatable parts of boats are reinforced with this material.
It is a synthetic rubber that can withstand extreme temperatures and strong UV light. For the DoggoCollar collars Hypalon is a strengthening element in the collar parts most at risk for tearing.
Softshell. Softshell is a high-tech two layer fabric used in mountain equipment. We chose it for the inside of our collars for its durability, comfort, and easy maintenance.
It also helps with keeping good hygiene because it does not absorb moisture from the dog’s wet fur. This way, your four-legged friend will be protected from unpleasant odors, infections, and bacteria.
Security is a priority
The magnetic buckle
Some tactical collar producers choose a cobra buckle for fastening. We went into a different direction and partnered with Fidlock. Thus, our collars are equipped with a modern magnetic buckle.
The Fidlock buckle is designed to take on very heavy loads. So even if your dog pulls hard on its leash, the collar will stay safely in place. The neodymium magnets in the buckle guarantee maximum security and at the same time, an easy fastening and unfastening.
The D-rings
The leash is attached to the collar by the so-called D rings. The DoggoCollar D rings are custom made and can hold out over a 200 kg load. They are made of stainless steel, and are welded and strengthened for extra security.
So far we focused on tactical dog collars being practical. However, that does not mean that your canine companion has to have no style. Our DoggoCollar collars come in different bright colors, like red and orange, but also in classic black. They have a beautiful and clean design, suitable both for a walk downtown and an adventure in the wilderness.
In conclusion
We at DoggoCollar created collars that guarantee the safety and comfort of your four-legged pal. Even if your dog is on duty, the collar will protect and not disturb. If you would like to be one of the first owners of a DoggoCollar, you can order yours now.
