When it comes to dog accessories, luxurious does not necessarily mean a fancy and overpriced Italian designer dog collar or a heavy looking leather dog collar. On the contrary, the emphasis is on comfort and style. The key element for achieving this is the quality of the materials used for its production.

High quality materials only 

The market for luxury dog collars and leads is quite diverse. The ranges of designer Harris Tweed for example are especially popular in the UK. The products they offer are handmade and of pure wool which, no doubt, gives them a unique look. 

Wool, however, is a material quite difficult to maintain. The brand recommends washing the collars as little as possible, and when needed to use dry cleaning instead. That requires more time, more money, and unfortunately does not set a high hygiene standard. 

On the other hand most brands of dog collars and leads use nylon as their main material. It is a soft and light synthetic fabric that can be cleaned without a problem and is manufactured in multiple colors and patterns. Nevertheless, a nylon collar also has its downsides, such as lower water- and tear-resistance. 

Having this knowledge in mind, we at DoggoCollar found the perfect combination of materials for our second-generation collars: Cordura, Softshell, & Hypalon. Curious to find out what they are? Let us explain. 

For the outside part of DoggoCollar we entrusted our partners at Cordura advanced fabrics. A material very versatile in its application, it proved to be a great fit for our product. It is lightweight, easy to clean, and durable.

Softshell is what we use for the inside of our 4-cm collars. It is a material widely used in mountain sports that we chose for its advantages over other common fabrics in this industry. Firstly, as the name suggests, it is very soft and will not irritate your dog’s neck. DoggoCollar is all about comfort and you should only make sure to adjust the collar’s size properly.

Another advantage of softshell is its high water-resistance. If your dog likes splashing in puddles, there is no need to worry. The collar will not get soaked, and thanks to the fabric’s high breathability, it will not hold moisture from the hair. This contributes to maintaining good hygiene for your pup since absorbed moisture can cause a nasty odor, mildew, and all kinds of bacteria thrive in a moist environment.

For our 4-cm dog collars we added Hypalon as a strengthening component to make our products extra durable. Hypalon is a synthetic rubber, known for its high resistance to extreme temperatures and UV light. It reinforces the most vulnerable spots of the collars and is what makes them last even in tough conditions.

An easy fasten with a (magical) magnetic click 

Something that we are certainly proud of is our partnership with Fidlock. The company came up with an innovative magnetic-mechanical technology for all kinds of fasteners. The Fidlock buckles combine intuitive and easy handling with high security. 

And that is exactly what we wanted to implement as a feature in our DoggoCollar collars. On one hand, a buckle that is easy to fasten and unfasten, so that even children can handle it and have fun while taking care of their dog. And on the other hand, a safe choice for your pet, meaning no risk of the collar falling off or your dog wriggling out of it.

The devil is in the details

Apart from the main materials that we use for our DoggoCollar collars, we thought about the details as well. Two more important components make our products unique. 

Firstly, we use securely welded and strengthened stainless-steel D-rings. This special feature provides double security and strength to the lead buckle: the ring has to be manually put in a perpendicular position, so that the snap hook of the leash can be put through. That gives you the peace of mind that no matter how energetic your dog is, it will not slip off its leash. Moreover, the D-rings bear the force from your four-legged pal and take off the pressure from the magnetic buckle. 

Secondly, the threads that we use are certified for strength and make for an extremely durable product. They really justify the statement that our collars are built to last. In addition, the DoggoCollar seams are smooth and invisible. They will not cause any discomfort to your beloved pet, and will protect the dog’s skin from rashes and irritation.

We took care of everything

Of course, we did not forget that one of the main purposes of a dog collar is the possibility to attach an ID tag to it. In case of an emergency, anyone should be able to read the important information about your pet, and of course to find you as its owner.
